Mt. Moiwa, Hokkaido
Mt. Moiwa is the mountain with an altitude of 531 meters, located about 5 kilometers from the city center of Sapporo. “Moiwa Primeval Forest” is a treasure trove of nature, it is designated as a natural monument of the country. Promenade and mountain trails that continue from Maruyama Park are popular as trekking and walking paths of Sapporo citizens.
Mt. Moiwa is said to be the three major night scenic areas of Hokkaido lined with Mt. Hakodate and Otaru Tengu mountain. In addition, the observatory of Mt. Moiwa has been chosen as one of the hundred selections of the Japanese nightscapes. It has been recognized as a sacred place for lovers from now, it is one of Hokkaido’s best date spots. It seems that you can deepen your love while watching the romantic night view.
From the departure station of Sapporo Streetcar Line it takes approximately 20 minutes to “Ropeway Iriguchi-eki Station”. The free shuttle bus operates from there to “Moiwayama Sanroku-eki Station” of the ropeway. You can enter by purchasing admission tickets at “Sanroku-eki” (Foothills Station). To the summit of the mountain, it goes by a ropeway to the mountain side station, and goes up by “Maurice car” (mini cable car) to “Sancho-eki Station” (Summit Station).
Both ropeway and “Maurice car” operate at roughly 15 minute intervals. Both will proceed quickly, so it will arrive at the summit in the blink of an eye in no time. The name “Maurice” was named after the black Hokkaido squirrel which is the character of the ropeway.
There is “Happy Bell” on the summit observatory of Mt. Moiwa.
Lovers enter this circle and ring the bell. In addition, a handrail that surrounds the bell has countless padlocks attached. The padlocks surrounding the bell is called the “Padlocks of Lovers”. There is the legend that the couple can never be broke up when writing their names and locking them.
