The facility for handling overseas kings and presidents visiting Japan
Geihinkan (State Guest Houses) located in Former Akasaka Minato-ku, Tokyo. This is a facility for handling overseas kings and presidents visiting Japan.
When this building was originally built, it was built not as a guesthouse but as the Prince Imperial’s Palace. However due to various circumstances the Crown Princess Yoshihito Prince (later Taisho Emperor) never used as a residence. And after throne to the Emperor, this place was treated as Rikyu (Imperial Villa). After that, as a residence of the Hirohito Shinno (later Emperor Showa) family, after being transferred from the imperial family to the nation after the war, it was used as a Diet Library and as an office of the Tokyo Olympic Games Organizing Committee.
In 1967, the country refurbished the former Akasaka Rikyu as a new guesthouse facility replacing the former Asaka Palace residence (present · Tokyo garden museum in Minato-ku, Tokyo) that was used as a guesthouse until then. And after completing the construction over 5 years, the Akasaka guesthouse was born. In 2009 it is also designated as a national treasure for the first time as a cultural asset since the Meiji era.
