It takes about 10 minutes to walk from Tennoji station to your destination. Alternatively, board the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line from Umeda Station and get off at Tennoji Station. You can arrive from Tennoji Station in about 10 minutes on foot.

One of the oldest full-scale Buddhist temples in Japan
The Shitenno-ji temple is the Buddhist temple in the Tennoji area in Osaka. Tradition says that it is one of the seven great temples having been built by Prince Shotoku in 593. It is written down in “the Chronicles of Japan” about the process of the construction.
With the Asuka temple which Sogano Umako built, it is one of the oldest full-scale Buddhist temples in Japan. After the Heian period, disaster ware encountered frequently and, as for the old building, many do not remain.
However, it has a very large site today, arrangement of Garan (Temple buildings) called the Shitenno-ji-temple-style which South Gate, an inner gate, a five-storied pagoda, the main hall of a Buddhist temple, and an auditorium are located in a straight line also is still remained.
Revived the original state correctly in 1963
By the war damage and a misfortune of several times, Garan was destroyed by fire. It is said that the present Garan revived the original state correctly in 1963.
The two-Deva-kings image is the largest in the Japanese
The Deva gate is also called the inner gate. The two-Deva-kings image stands still at the both ends of the gate.
This two-Deva-kings image is 1 ton in weight, and 5.3 meters in height, and it is the largest in the Japanese two-Deva-kings image.
The gate itself is a product made from ferro-concrete. The gate is always closed and cannot go in and out from here.
Rebuilt by the 8th time now
The five-storied pagoda has been burned down repeatedly since the foundation in 593. However, it is the building which was rebuilt at every time and rebuilt by the 8th time now.
This is also a product made from steel framed reinforced concrete, and the roof is tile-roofing.
The ‘Sorin’ (a metal pinnacle) is 12.3m and occupies a one-third of the overall height.
Four Heavenly Kings is enshrined in every direction
The Kuze Kannon Bosatsu (statue of a bodhisattva) in the half-lotus position which is Shitenno-ji Temple principal idol is enshrined in the inner temple. Statue of the Four Heavenly Kings is enshrined in every direction.
