The Todoroki Valley, located in Todoroki, Setagaya-ku, is a valley in the center of Tokyo. This gorge full of nature in a quiet residential area is also known as the “urban oasis”, and is famous as a recommended healing spots in Tokyo where you can enjoy nature with ease. You can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in autumn, and there is also a Japanese garden and sweets shop. This is a perfect spot for a weekend walk.
Todoroki Gorge, located at the southern end of Musashino Plateau, is the only valley in Tokyo that consists of the Tanizawa River. Todoroki Valley, blessed with beautiful nature, is popular with residents and is a popular spot for many visitors.

If you go past the golf bridge and go along the promenade along the river, you will see a rich natural scenery like a different place. If you walk further past Tamawabashi Bridge, you will see “Todoroki Gorge No. 3 tunnel tombs” on the left bank of the valley. Tunnel tombs created from the end of the Kofun period to the Nara period and designated as a historical site in Tokyo. One of the attractions of Todoriki Gorge is that you can take a walk while touching Japanese historical buildings.
If you go up the stairs next to “Fudo Waterfall”, you will come to the main hall of Todoroki Fudoson. There is an observatory overlooking the valley in one corner of the precincts, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the seasons, such as cherry blossoms in spring and colored leaves in autumn.
Going across the river to the other side of Todoroki Fudoson, there is a “Japanese garden” with a distinctive “Kabukimon Gate”. There is a free Shoin (reception building) in the garden where you can sit and relax on the Endai (outdoor benches) while looking at the garden.
The Japanese garden, which was created using the environment of the Todoroki Valley, is a strolling garden where you can enjoy the view of the large garden. While walking in the garden where various plants are planted, you can fully appreciate the beauty of Japanese aesthetics such as stone lanterns and bamboo groves.

Todoroki-Keikoku Valley was a lush valley formed by the erosion of Yazawa River and received designation of cultural property of “scenic spots” in the Tokyo Metropolitan Cultural Property Protection Ordinance in 1999. The place name “Todoroki” has a legend that it became its name because the sound of “Fudo Waterfall” in the valley roared.
As you go down the stairs, the valley continues beyond the red bridges and the spectacle that is indeed doubtful as to whether this place is really in the city center is spreading. Take a leisurely stroll through the sun peppered through the deep valleys while being wrapped in Yazawa River’s flowing stream and scent of forest flowing down the valley.
The distance to walk in the valley is not so long, but it is a expressive valley that shows various landscapes depending on the seasons you visit and also the time. Especially in autumn and spring, autumn leaves and cherry blossoms are wonderful so it is recommended season. Although the boardwalk is maintained, there are places where the foothold is not good, so it would be better to wear shoes that are easy to walk on.
Selected as the Tokyo Metropolitan Area-designated spots
“Todoroki-Keikoku” (Todoroki valley) is the only valley in the twenty three wards in central Tokyo, and is designated Tokyo Metropolitan Area-designated spots of scenic beauty. It cannot be considered that there would be any other place so splendid as here in the central of Tokyo. It is said that the place name of “Todoroki” from the sound of “Fudo-no-Taki waterfall” in the valley echoes, and roared (“Todoroku” in Japanese).

The valley spreads out along the Tanizawa River drifting calmly. At first the bright red bridge comes into view. This bridge is called “the golf bridge”. This name derived from the fact that there was a golf course in this neighborhood early in the Showa era and the bridge was to go there.

Full length of the Todoroki-Keikoku is approximately 1km. It is the distance that you can take a walk through willingly. You will notice that the green opens only here around this area, when you see a map.

Access
From Tokyo Station, take the Japan Railway Keihin Tohoku Line and go to Oimachi Station. Change to Tokyu Corporation Oimachi Line and get off at Todoroki Station. It is about 3 minutes walk from there.
