Yamashita Koen Park is not only a sightseeing spot that represents Yokohama, but also a place for citizens to relax. This is a place where people who want to visit Yokohama for the first time as well as those who have visited many times want to come again.
Yamashita Park opened in 1958 as Japan’s first seaside park. “Nippon Yusen Hikawa-maru” moored in front of Yamashita Park is a cargo-passenger ship of Japan which is uniquely existing from prewar days. It receives designation of tangible cultural properties in Yokohama-shi in 2003, and is exhibited as a museum ship at present. It is divided into three areas as displaying the history of the Hikawa-maru, “passenger ship area” which can look at the guest room, and “crew area” introducing the workshop of the crew, so you can learn the valuable history of the Hikawa-maru. A whole view of a large pier or Minato Mirai can be overlook from the outdoor deck.
