Ohori Park, Fukuoka

The Hakata area and the Tenjin area are two major center cities in Fukuoka prefecture. Hakata is the most famous sightseeing spot in Fukuoka as a place where the big city and the historic spot blend. On the other hand, the Tenjin area can be said to be a young spot where many department stores and commercial facilities gather. It is such a big city of Fukuoka, but there is a place of relaxation where you can spend relaxing time in a place that is a little far away.

Ohori Park is located only two stations away from Tenjin area, which can go in 4 minutes, and it is the place for citizens to relax. This beautiful park, which has the huge pond and the boat house, once functioned as the outer moat of the Fukuoka castle.

Now, it is used by many people as a place of relaxation around the Fukuoka castle. In addition, there are not only Fukuoka castle but also Fukuoka City Museum of Art, Gokoku-jinja Shrine (shrine honoring war dead), and the Japanese style garden in the surrounding area. You can enjoy them as the sightseeing spot full of nature and culture.

The Ukimi-do Hall extending from the island in the park’s pond was originally in Fukuoka City Zoo. The vermillion vivid building is now the spot symbolizing the Ohori Park.

As already mentioned, Ohori Park, once playing the role of the outer moat of Fukuoka castle, is now the park utilizing its huge remnant pond. The area around the pond is about 2 kilometers in length and many people use cycling and jogging. There are small islands dotted in the center of this pond, and you can cross the entire pond across the bridge connecting these islands.
